Happy Bosses Day

It is no secret that intra-office relationships between managers and their employees are just flat-out cordial, necessitated by the latter’s need to maintain their jobs. Undoubtedly, not many employees are holding their breath to appreciate their managers on National Bosses Day which comes around every 16th of October.

While many see it as a meaningless celebration and an unnecessary need to suck up to their bosses, a small percentage acknowledge and genuinely laud their managers’ hard work and dedication. A boss is generally defined as one who exercises control or authority. It goes without saying that anyone given power to take charge can become a boss. However, it takes more than just wielding power to be termed a boss.

Great jobs start with great bosses. So who is a great boss?

Bosses are bosses not because of their power, but because of their ability to empower those they lead. They not only lead the way but show the way too. Their leadership is in their humility to welcome and work with the ideas and opinions of those they manage while providing feedback and coaching.

They do not wield a big stick by micromanaging their team, but effectively lead, motivate, and inspire through their actions, empowering them to do and become more. They build great teams by providing room for everyone’s growth while appreciating their hard work and success.

In honor of this year’s National Bosses Day, some of our employees shared their appreciation for their managers;

Chris Eales (Group CEO PHHI)

Working for a visionary with a spirit of never giving up is a great honor and privilege. His belief in international nurses contributes to Adevia Health USA’s successes. He provides guidance and support every step of the way, always having everyone’s best interest at heart.

~ Lene Wessels (Director of Education)

BJ McClendon (VP Operations)

Good leaders and good humans are rare to find these days. However, BJ McClendon fits the entire mold on this one. He has had a positive impact on everyone at Adevia Health. He is inclusive, considerate, a good listener, and a team player…the list could endlessly go on. Like Donald McGannon said, ‘Leadership is an action, not a position,’ and BJ perfectly embodies this phrase by walking the talk.

~ Lucy Murunga (Director of Operations)

Tanya McClendon (VP of Clinical Services)

Tanya McClendon is the VP of Clinical Services at Adevia Health USA. Her leadership and guidance ensure all our nurses receive the best support. She leads with a warm caring heart, always placing our nurses first. Celebrating her 53rd year in nursing, she acts as a role model to all. It is an honor to have her as a mentor.

~ Lene Wessels (Director of Education)

Eddie Money (VP of Client Relations)

Working with Eddie is amazing. When I first started back in January, I was new to this business and I had never done anything in the healthcare industry. Eddie taught me for 3 weeks straight and during that time I learned a lot of information. I also adopted some best practices from him that helped my workflow today. Whenever we travel together he always has some random facts about where we are going, whether they are true or not lol.

~ Addison Caldwell (Account Manager)

Lucy Murunga (Director of Operations)

Seated with a stern expression, she fired off a series of questions, and I responded with a constant smile, attempting to ease my nerves, all while maintaining unbroken eye contact. As I concluded the interview, her smile never wavered, and she asked, “So, when can you start with us?” That single question left me with a hopeful certainty, but then a doubt crept in – was it just a routine part of the interview process?

That marked my first interaction with Lucy Murunga. Not only does she embody the qualities of an exemplary leader, but she also ignites a spark within me to aspire to signal. Her capacity to truly listen, encourage, and propel you to unveil your hidden potential is truly inspiring. Her one-word text “come” used to trigger a sense of unease, signaling that something was up or I was in trouble. Now, I find the confidence to approach her with a casual greeting from time to time. One of the remarkable attributes that defines her leadership is her “open-door policy,” a practice she consistently upholds. She’s always willing to lend an ear, discuss concerns, and explore solutions that benefit not only the company but also our personal growth. Your role extends far beyond that of a typical boss; you serve as a mentor and a profound source of inspiration. Thank you for your unwavering support and the positive impact you’ve had on all of us.

~ Shanice Kadenge (Case Officer)

Lene Wessels- Director of Education

Lene’s leadership style has made a profound impact on our team, fostering an environment that encourages innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
Lene’s dedication to excellence and her unwavering support for the professional development of her colleagues has truly been inspiring. Her insightful guidance and approachable demeanor create an atmosphere where every voice is heard and valued, leading to a truly dynamic and productive work environment. It is an absolute pleasure to be part of Lene’s team, and I look forward to learning and growing under her remarkable leadership.

~ Barron Analo (RN Education Specialistfficer)

Lisa Kung’u (Education Department Manager)

Lisa is special. Nothing quite describes her like a supportive supervisor. She always lends a helping hand, whether setting up a meeting room or even escorting one along the corridor when at your lowest moment. Beyond that, she is an excellent supervisor with exemplary leadership and management skills. She is relentless about the improvement of our training program in Adevia. She is accommodative, always genuinely encouraging contributions from others while appreciating diversity. She gives off good energy, sharing great laughs and fun both at work and at play.
I sincerely appreciate you, Lisa.

~ Abel Mwema (RN Education Specialist)

Lydiah Wachira (Immigration Department Manager)

Before one is a leader, success is all about growing themselves. When you became a leader, success was all about growing others. Thank you for the hard work you put into our growth and development each day. You always make a point to recognize our efforts and make it a priority to recognize our contributions every day. It is a pleasure to have this opportunity to recognize you. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have a boss who is willing to listen and do something about it when you can. Happy Boss Day to a leader who knows how to keep us inspired!

~ Melissa Kadzo (Immigration Officer)

It’s rare to find someone who can make a team, be part of a team, and still effectively lead the team. That’s what the past two years have been working with Lydiah. While we don’t get to choose our bosses, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Sure it’s not all scented candles and roses but then again what is? The beauty of it all is that when I look back to day one, I can confidently say, the learning curve looks great! We continue to get to the bridges we said we’d cross and we will hopefully still cross many more. I could write an entire essay, illustrate, or paint a picture but I’ll say this, give Lydiah her favorite kind of flowers. She’s good at it.

~ Elizabeth Kasandi (Case Compliance Officer)

Jonathan Lewela Alama (System Support Manager)

Jonathan makes complex problems look easy to solve when we discuss them. He is very committed to priority tasks and likes to find better innovative ways for long-term solutions.
Jonathan’s approachable and friendly demeanor fosters a positive working environment, making him a trusted colleague and an exceptional leader in our department. Working with Jonathan is not just productive, but also an enjoyable experience. You get to learn a lot from him.

~Alex Mwangi (Data Analyst)

Stacey Bwoga (Applications Team Lead)

When I was introduced to Stacey as my supervisor, she struck me as polite and very easy and comfortable to be around, individual. Needless to say, she has maintained that same impression on me as she is still that ever-smiley, polite, and soft-spoken boss. When one makes a mistake, she’ll give you a chance to correct yourself. She holds trust in everyone she works with and makes one feel confident in herself. I can proudly say I have one of the best bosses ever and wouldn’t wish for anything more. Stacey, happy bosses’ day! “

~ Wilfred Mugure (Applications Assistant)

Mitchelle Kathure- Licensure Team Lead

Working with Mitchell has really been great. I have been able to learn a lot through her guidance. She is kind, patient, and willing to help at any time. She is understanding and that makes it easy to work with her.

~ Harriet Soita (Processing Officer)

Yvette Adoyo- Administration Manager

Yvette is an embodiment of meticulousness and you can see it from her ensuring the office runs like a well-oiled machine to organizing company celebrations. During events, you can see her unwilling to relax and celebrate until every element falls in place and has been executed flawlessly, with the result being memorable events. Her attention to details and being able to oversee that everything runs smoothly makes her a standout boss.

~ Babra Knight (Processing Officer)

To our fearless leaders, Happy Bosses Day.
We appreciate everything you do for your teams!
