Recommended resources when preparing for the NCLEX-RN exam

by Lene Wessels

Writing the NCLEX-RN exam can be very daunting. But with good preparation, you will be able to reach your goal. Choosing the right NCLEX-RN preparation team and resources is the first and most important step of your preparation. Adevia Health USA believes a comprehensive approach is key to your success.

With more than 100 different resources to choose from it can feel overwhelming. It is important to understand that when you choose an NCLEX-RN prep you need to identify a program that suits your learning preferences. Neil Fleming invented the VARK module in 1978 to assist a student in identifying their individual learning preferences. According to the VARK model, learners are identified by whether they have a preference for:

  • Visual learning (pictures, movies, diagrams)
  • Auditory learning (music, discussion, lectures)
  • Reading and writing (making lists, reading textbooks, taking notes)
  • Kinesthetic learning (movement, experiments, hands-on activities)

You can take a free ‘’The VARK® Questionnaire How do you learn best?’’, to identify your learning preferences. Adevia Health USA Education Department recommends the following NCLEX prep resources for each learning style.

VISUAL LEARNING

If you are a visual learner Nurse Mike from Simple Nursing has 900+ colorful study guides with catchy mnemonics and diagrams to assist you.

It consists of comprehensive explanations and questions and answers after each chapter. The Saunders has limited pictures and diagrams and is not highly recommended for the visual learner.
